Ruhuna-Duke Centre for Infectious Diseases held its first Scientific Advisory Board Meeting on 25th October 2024, at the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ruhuna, Karapitiya. This gathering brought together members of the RDCID and distinguished scientific advisory board members, allowing for both in-person and virtual participation. The meeting served as a platform to provide insights on RDCID's progress, discuss future directions, and strengthen collaborative goals.

The meeting had virtual attendance from advisory board members Prof. Duane J Gubler, Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama and Dr. Chandanamali Punchihewa, with Prof. Aruna Dharshana De Silva joining in-person. Key RDCID members, including Co-Directors Prof. Campica Bodinayake, Prof. Ajith Nagahawatte, and Prof. Gayani Tillekeratne, participated in person. Laboratory leadership was represented by Dr. Subodha Wickramasinghe, along with senior research scientist Dr. Ruvini Kurukulasooriya, project manager Ms. Madureka Premamali, and laboratory research manager Mr. Buddhika Dilshan.

The meeting started with a warm welcome introducing the scientific advisory board members, followed by a detailed overview of the RDCID’s  current initiatives, mission, accomplishments, and long-term objectives in infectious disease research by Prof. Bodinayake and Prof. Tillekeratne. This introduction aimed to foster a deeper understanding of the center's vision to advance research and support healthcare solutions in infectious diseases through collaborative expertise and innovative findings.

The advisory board and RDCID team engaged in a productive discussion, focusing on future research goals and plans as well as interdisciplinary partnerships for infectious disease research in Sri Lanka.

The RDCID team thanks all attendees for their valuable input and support in this inaugural advisory meeting, which marks a significant step forward in advancing the center’s activities.
